Hydrometers for Must, Fruit Juice and Wine

Our precision-made hydrometers for must, fruit juice and wine are used to determine sugar content, alcohol content and the composition of fermenting and finished beverages. They provide reliable readings of the alcohol level in must and, at the same time, precise values for density and must weight.

A high-quality hydrometer for must and wine is a central instrument in quality control, as the readings allow important conclusions about ripeness, fermentation progress and composition.

Hydrometer: precise sugar and alcohol measurement

In must production, exact measurement of sugar and alcohol matters. Our hydrometers reliably determine the sugar content and accurately measure the alcohol level in must and wine. Thanks to the integrated dual scale, both density and alcohol content can be read directly. Typical applications include monitoring the fermentation process and assessing the quality of fruit juices and wines. The must scale (must weight hydrometer) helps you measure the must weight exactly and follow the course of fermentation closely.

Types and accessories for must analysis

Several types are available for different requirements, including hydrometers for extract determination as well as classic must scales. These are matched precisely to the needs of must producers, allowing straightforward, dependable use in everyday work.

Measuring range, accuracy and design of our hydrometers for must

Depending on the version, our hydrometers cover a measuring range of 0.985 to 1.130 g/cm³ as well as 3 to 18 % vol alcohol. They are therefore ideal for analysing must and wine at various stages of maturity.

The high resolution of up to 0.0002 g/cm³ and up to 0.5 % vol allows for fine gradation of measured values, while an accuracy of ±0.0002 g/cm³ and ±0.5 % vol ensures that even small changes in sugar or alcohol content are detected reliably.

Our hydrometers are available with or without an integrated thermometer. The reference temperature is +20 °C, which guarantees standardised, comparable results. Depending on requirements, versions with organic or metallic thermometer filling are available.

Calibration and quality assurance

For complete documentation of your measurement results, every hydrometer can be supplied on request with a works calibration certificate or a traceable DAkkS calibration certificate. This keeps all readings traceable and meets the requirements of modern quality assurance.

Our hydrometers for must and wine stand for the highest precision and are the right solution wherever sugar and alcohol content need to be measured reliably.

FAQ

A hydrometer is used to determine the sugar content and alcohol level of must, fruit juices and wine. It is a central tool for quality control and process monitoring during fermentation.

To determine the sugar content, the hydrometer is immersed in the liquid. Depending on the sugar concentration, the density changes, so the hydrometer sinks to a different depth. The sugar content, or correspondingly the must weight, can then be read directly off the scale.

The alcohol content of must is measured using a hydrometer, which makes use of the relationship between density and alcohol content. The value is read directly off the scale.

A must scale measures the must weight and, by extension, the sugar content. This value is crucial for assessing ripeness and for controlling fermentation.

The values provide insight into quality, ripeness and the progress of fermentation. Only accurate measurements lead to optimal results in must and wine production.

Yes, many models are available with an integrated thermometer. This allows temperature-related influences to be taken into account and improves measurement accuracy.
