Hydrometers for Specific Gravity

Our hydrometers for specific gravity deliver precise density measurements of liquids in accordance with ASTM E100-19. Available with or without an integrated thermometer, they are widely used in laboratories, in quality assurance and across industrial inspection processes wherever the density of a liquid must be measured in a standard-compliant and reproducible way.

Hydrometers for Specific Gravity

Our hydrometers for specific gravity deliver precise density measurements of liquids in accordance with ASTM E100-19. Applications of density measurement with hydrometers

The density measurement of liquids is one of the most fundamental tests in research, production and quality control. A hydrometer used to measure specific gravity delivers reliable readings without electronic instruments and without a power supply. Typical applications include the incoming inspection of raw materials in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, the testing of solutions, emulsions and alkaline media in mineral oil and chemical analysis, as well as quality assurance in food and beverage technology, for example for sugar, salt or alcohol solutions. In research and laboratory analysis, hydrometers also serve as reference instruments for comparative measurements and validations.

Designs and technical features of our hydrometers

To suit every measuring task, we manufacture several designs of hydrometers for specific gravity measurement. The range-finder hydrometer is ideal for the quick initial assessment of unknown liquids over a wide measuring range, while our ASTM specific gravity hydrometer is built to ASTM E100-19 for standardised testing and internationally comparable results. For media with high density up to 2.000 sp/gr, we offer dedicated hydrometers for heavy liquids. All versions reach an accuracy of ±0.0005 sp/gr at a reference temperature of 60/60 °F and can be supplied with an integrated thermometer on request, so density and temperature can be captured in a single step.

Order your hydrometer for specific gravity directly from the manufacturer

If you are looking for a precise hydrometer for specific gravity for laboratory work, quality assurance or industrial inspection, you have come to the right place. FAQ

A hydrometer for specific gravity measures the density of a liquid in relation to the density of water at a defined reference temperature, which is 60/60 °F for our versions. The measuring principle is based on Archimedes’ principle: the depth to which the hydrometer sinks into the liquid corresponds directly to its specific gravity.

Our hydrometers are manufactured to ASTM E100-19. This internationally recognised standard defines the requirements for measuring range, scaling and design, ensuring that measurement results remain comparable across laboratories and production sites.

Because the density of a liquid depends on its temperature, a combined hydrometer and thermometer is recommended whenever measurements are taken away from the reference temperature, or when the process temperature varies. Recording both values at the same time saves time and improves measurement accuracy.

Our hydrometers for specific gravity are precision analogue instruments built to ASTM E100-19, working without electronics or a power supply. For applications that require digital density measurement, please get in touch. We will gladly recommend alternative method.

In general, hydrometers can be used on any homogeneous, bubble-free liquid, from light organic solvents through to heavy inorganic solutions with a density of up to 2.000 sp/gr. We are happy to advise on the right version for your specific application.
