Applications of density measurement with hydrometers
The density measurement of liquids is one of the most fundamental tests in research, production and quality control. A hydrometer used to measure specific gravity delivers reliable readings without electronic instruments and without a power supply. Typical applications include the incoming inspection of raw materials in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries, the testing of solutions, emulsions and alkaline media in mineral oil and chemical analysis, as well as quality assurance in food and beverage technology, for example for sugar, salt or alcohol solutions. In research and laboratory analysis, hydrometers also serve as reference instruments for comparative measurements and validations.

The range-finder hydrometer is ideal for the quick initial assessment of unknown liquids over a wide measuring range, while our ASTM specific gravity hydrometer is built to ASTM E100-19 for standardised testing and internationally comparable results. For media with high density up to 2.000 sp/gr, we offer dedicated hydrometers for heavy liquids. All versions reach an accuracy of ±0.0005 sp/gr at a reference temperature of 60/60 °F and can be supplied with an integrated thermometer on request, so density and temperature can be captured in a single step.
